In consultation with Bishop Remegiose Inchananiyil of Thamarasserry (Syro-Malabarese), India, Father Thomas K. Kalapurackal is appointed administrator of Christ the King Parish, Dunbar, and Holy Trinity Parish, Nitro, with its Mission of St. Patrick, Bancroft, in addition to chaplaincy responsibilities of West Virginia State University, Charleston, with residence at the parish rectory in Nitro, effective June 17, 2015.
A short biography:
Fr. Thomas is the third of 8 children (5 boys & 3 girls (2 of them nuns). He is from Kerala, a small state in the western coast of India. He belongs to Syro-Malabar Church (an Eastern Rite Church in the Catholic communion) and is a diocesan priest of the diocese of Thamarassery, Kerala, India. He served for ten years as Judicial Vicar (this is the head of a Tribunal) in that diocese and six years as spiritual director of the diocesan seminary. His Bishop sent him to England as chaplain to the Kerala Catholic community there. For the last five years, before coming to the US, he worked as associate pastor in the diocese of Lancaster, England, and Chaplain to the Indian community there. After that, he was sent to WV at the request of Bishop Bransfield and has been serving as Associate Pastor in Beckley.
